Privacy Policy

Last updated: 13 July 2026

Glacier Trips is a family-owned glacier guiding company in southeast Iceland, operated by Sindri and Fanney. This policy explains what personal information we collect through glaciertrips.is and our tours, why we collect it, and the rights you have over it. We follow the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Icelandic Data Protection Act (lög nr. 90/2018).

Who we are

Glacier trips ehf. (kennitala 690515-0240), Hafnarbraut 1, 780 Höfn, Iceland.
Email: info@glaciertrips.is · Phone: +354 779 2919

What we collect, and why

  • Inquiries. When you use our contact or private-tour forms, we receive the details you type (name, email, your message) so we can answer you. Forms are delivered by Web3Forms to our email.
  • Bookings. Tours are booked through Bókun, our booking platform. A booking includes your name, email, phone number, party size and tour details — what we need to run your tour and contact you about it (for example a weather change).
  • Payments. Card payments are processed by our payment provider (Straumur; older bookings ran through Valitor). Your card details never reach or get stored on our systems.
  • Health and safety information. Glacier travel is physical. If you tell us about a medical condition, injury or fitness concern so we can keep you safe, we use it only for that purpose, share it only with your guide, and delete it after your tour. We process it only because you chose to give it to us (explicit consent).
  • Website usage. With your consent (see Cookies below), we collect usage data — pages visited, device and browser type, roughly where visitors come from — to understand and improve the site.
  • Email. If you email us, we keep the correspondence for as long as we may need to refer back to it.

Our legal bases

We process booking and payment data to perform our contract with you; analytics and marketing data only with your consent; correspondence and basic business records under our legitimate interest in running the company; and accounting records because Icelandic law obliges us to keep them.

Cookies and analytics

The site sets no analytics or marketing cookies until you choose Accept all in our cookie banner. If you choose Necessary only, nothing tracks you. With consent, we use:

  • Google Analytics 4 (Google LLC) — visitor statistics;
  • Microsoft Clarity (Microsoft Corp.) — how pages are used, to improve them;
  • Google Ads conversion measurement — whether our ads lead to bookings;
  • Meta Pixel (Meta Platforms) — whether our Facebook and Instagram ads lead to visits;
  • OpenAI Ads Pixel (OpenAI) — whether our ChatGPT ads lead to visits.

The Google tools load through Google Tag Manager; the Meta and OpenAI pixels load directly, also only after you accept. You can change your choice at any time via the Cookie settings link in the footer. The booking checkout (Bókun) may set its own cookies, covered by Bókun's privacy policy.

Who we share data with

We never sell your data. We share it only with the services that make the website and tours work:

  • Bókun — booking management
  • Straumur / Valitor — card payment processing (Iceland)
  • Google (Analytics, Tag Manager, Ads) and Microsoft (Clarity) — with consent only
  • Meta and OpenAI — ad measurement, with consent only
  • Web3Forms — contact-form delivery
  • Zoho Mail (EU) — our email
  • 1984 ehf. (Iceland) — website hosting

Transfers outside the EEA

Google, Microsoft, Meta, OpenAI and Web3Forms process some data in the United States. These transfers rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and/or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

How long we keep data

Booking and invoice records: up to 7 years (Icelandic bookkeeping law). Inquiries and correspondence: as long as needed to help you, then deleted. Health and safety notes: deleted after your tour. Analytics data: per the retention settings of Google Analytics, and only if you consented.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask us at any time to:

  • see the data we hold about you (access);
  • correct it (rectification);
  • delete it (erasure);
  • limit or object to how we use it (restriction / objection);
  • receive it in a portable format (portability);
  • withdraw consent — e.g. via the footer Cookie settings link.

Just email info@glaciertrips.is — we answer personally, usually within a few days. You can also complain to the Icelandic Data Protection Authority, Persónuvernd.

Children

Our tours have minimum ages (8 for the short tour, 14 for Adventures Dream) and the website is not directed at children. We only handle a child's details as part of a parent's or guardian's booking.

Changes

If we change this policy we update it here and bump the date at the top. Significant changes will be highlighted on this page.
